| " An own goal and a quick free-kick meant Arsenal return from Portugal with a first leg loss in their Champions League Knock-out game against Porto. Fabianski threw the ball into his own net early in the first half but Arsenal replied with an away goal from veteran Sol Campbell. With both teams in search of a winner it was Porto the more lively as they took advantage of Arsenal's lack of concentration to grab the winner in the second half. Fabianski picked up a Campbell backpass and Porto took the in-direct free-kick immediately one pass from Ruben Micael gave Falcao an easy opportunity from 5 yards whilst Campbell and Fabianski were left complaining. Although the goal complied with the rules most can see why Arsenal feel they were hard done by. Manager Arsene Wenger was left fuming on the sidelines as his side were caught napping with a couple of bizarre self inflicted goals. It may call for a change in the rules as Arsenal had not been given the chance to defend the free-kick as the referee allowed Porto to take quickly only a few yards from goal. But we all remember how cocky Arsenal got with the rules when Pires tried passing to Henry from a penalty kick. Henry scored quite a few important goals from quick free kicks before the opposition had the chance to defend. Chelsea were busy assembling a wall with the goalkeeper stood on the post when Henry converted quickly into an empty net. Arsene had little to say about the referee or the rules that day. What goes around comes around Arsenal.... " |
